Resorts & Climate

Snow conditions in Australia vary year to year. Australia has a relatively mild climate, with average temperatures of -5°C at night and between +2°C and +3°C during the day on the slopes during the winter season (June to October).

With Australia having such a mild climate this does mean that one year can be a bumper season, with the next having very patchy snow coverage. Grooming takes place on the main runs in most of the major ski resorts, ensuring that even during patchy seasons, you can get decent runs in.

In addition, most resorts provide alternate winter activities. In particular, Thredbo has a great Leisure centre, with gym, olympic size swimming pool, water slide and ‘mission inflatable’, an inflatable obstacle course that sits on the pool, making it perfect for the kids to burn off excess energy.

Each resort promotes itself in a different way (best beginner slopes, steepest slopes, highest resort etc), however all have their good and bad points. For Australian resort ski trail and village maps and resort pass costs, visit each resorts own website. NB, in addition to lift passes, you need to pay resort entry costs for the Victorian Ski Resorts.
